Pain Management Using Tens Unit

TENS stands for (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), which are predominately used for pain relief and the treatment of pain and nerve related pain conditions (acute and chronic conditions). TENS machines work by sending electronic stimulating pulses across the surface of the skin and along the nerve strands.

The stimulating pulses help prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. Tens devices also help stimulate your body to produce higher levels of its own natural painkillers, called "Endorphins".

We encourage you to read about How a Tens Unit Works to treat and relieve pain.

Uses of TENS machine:
  • Drug free pain management
  • Easy to use, small & portable
  • Does not cause drowsiness
  • Non-invasive giving freedom to move and walk about
  • Can be used for as long as required
  • Can be used in conjunction with other prescribed drugs

Is a TENS unit safe?
A Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) unit is a device that sends small electrical currents to targeted body parts.  Some TENS Units are designed for use in a hospital or healthcare facility. Others are safe to use at home. TENS therapy subdues hyperalgesia, which is a high sensitivity to pain.

How does TENS Unit works and how to use it?
The benefit of TENS Unit is that it is safe, ‘drug free’ method of pain management. It acts through pads placed on the skin, sending small electrical impulses to the underlying nerve fibres (transcutaneous means ‘through the skin’).

TENS Units also help to stimulate our body to produce higher levels of our own natural painkiller, called endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals made by our body to reduce or prevent pain.

TENS Unit when appropriate allows for pain reduction without the potential side effects of medications. A TENS Unit can be used during a physical therapy session or in the comfort of home. It is a cost-effective, non-invasive treatment of pain with proven results.

What can HMS Tens Unit be used for?

Ultrasound Therapy in Physiotherapy

Ultrasound Therapy in Physiotherapy   Ultrasound therapy is one of the most used methods to reduces inflammation and pain by generating heat deep inside the body parts such as muscle, ligaments, tendons by physiotherapists. It is used by physiotherapists to treat their patients suffering due to injury such as a sprain, ligament tear, Osteoporosis, sports injuries, etc. Ultrasound therapy is performed with a machine that has an ultrasound transducer (sound head). A small amount of gel is applied to the particular body part; then the physiotherapist slowly moves the sound head in a small circular direction on your body. Ultrasound therapy machine is mostly used to provide a Deep Heating effect and Non - thermal effect. Deep Heating Effect of Ultrasound therapy Ultrasound therapy is often used to provide deep heating to soft tissue structures in the body. Deep heating tendons, muscles or ligaments increases circulation to those tissues, which helps speed up the healing process.
